Emerging Healthcare Solutions, Inc. (EHSI) has applauded news that the US Senate Committee on Aging was beginning to concentrate on the benefits of new wireless medical technology, a sector that includes the Company’s MedAnywhere iPhone application which is currently in development.
The Committee began the review last week. The effort, loosely called e-Health or e-Care, combines health-care technology with 21st- century Internet connectivity. It will allow doctors to interact with their patients through innovations such as video chats, telephone health checkups, and home-health monitoring devices that relay data over wireless Internet connections, the Company noted in a release. Recent healthcare reform is expected to be a boon to this new industry sector.
“The development of the broadband network and health information technologies has the potential to truly transform health care and simultaneously enable better outcomes and lowering costs,” said Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine).
Testifying before the Committee, Dr. Mohit Kaushal, Healthcare Director at the Federal Communications Commission, told the Committee “Five percent of Medicare beneficiaries, who in most cases have one or more chronic conditions, constitute 43 percent of Medicare spending, but there’s a set of broadband-enabled health information technology, both now and emerging from development, that can mitigate many of these issues and reduce the cost of care while improving clinical outcomes.”
EHSI noted that it took the lead in the new mobile Telemedicine industry through their prior licensing and development of an extraordinary mobile cellular-based communications platform for ambulances

Travelling through the UK:Cardiff, Edinburgh and Glasgow

in Travel (submitted 2007-09-01)
It can be easy to forget there’s much more to the UK than just England. In fact, any true understanding of that island nation requires visits to the Celtic realms of Wales and Scotland.
Cardiff
Capital of the principality of Wales, Cardiff grew up as a port for the shipping of iron and coal from nearby Welsh valleys. Now it’s cast off its grim history as a rough seaport to become a green and stately city with pedestrian shopping quadrants, statued squares and a large and well-preserved castle.
Cardiff also features a strong sporting and cultural presence. Sporting events such as the national sport of Rugby Union are played at the new Millenium Stadium. The Welsh National Opera now performs at the Wales Millennium Centre, Wales’ palace to arts and culture.
Transport:getting there and getting away
Cardiff International Airport is about 12 miles from the city. It connects with various destinations in the UK and continental Europe.
Direct trains connect Cardiff with London, Manchester, Birmingham and Nottingham and others as do national coach services.
The city has an effective bus system and the city’s flatness make it perfect for cycling. There are also two kinds of taxis – the black and white prowl the streets looking for fares and other colours which have to be booked.
Climate
Typical for the UK though Cardiff’s coastal location tends to temper extremes of temperature. Summer temperatures rarely exceed 30C and winters rarely fall below freezing.
Accommodation:from cheap stays to luxury resorts

Events:what’s on and what’s hot
* St David’s Day on March 1st is the national day of Wales. If features a parade* The Big Weekend is probably the most active Cardiff festival. Held on the last weekend in July, masses of people swamp the city hall area to enjoy the carnival events and fun fair atmosphere.
* Mermaid Quay Cardiff Harbour Festival at the end of August features family fun with a nautical theme.
Edinburgh
Edinburgh’s rich and storied history has endowed Edinburgh with a beguiling medley of medieval, Gothic Georgian and contemporary styles overlaid with an uniquely Scottish ambiance.
Capital of Scotland since 1437, Edinburgh is crowned with its castle. But for all its history it’s a lively place with museums and galleries, night-life,great restaurants and shops, and an scintillating programme of events throughout the year.
Transport:getting there and getting away
Direct flights link Edinburgh with cities in England, Wales, Ireland, the USA, Canada, Scandinavia and various countries in Europe.
Trains connect Edinburgh with a range of destinations from the spanking-new Edinburgh Train Station
Transport around Edinburgh can be summed up in the two words buses and bicycles.
Climate:
Edinburgh has a temperate climate despite its northern location. The weather is generally mild though subject to winds gushing in from the south-west. Summers in Edinburgh are blessed with long days and it’s often sunny though rain can sweep in out of the blue. Winters are chilly with short dark days.

CAMPAIGNERS fighting to prevent Tesco building a [pounds]40m superstore look to have claimed victory, after councillors throw out the application.
More than 400 people attended a four-hour planning meeting yesterday at which the proposed store, in Whitby, North Yorkshire, was debated.
Almost 4,000 people had signed a petition objecting to Tesco developing land owned by a group of nuns.
Helen Barker, of the campaign group Whitby Residents Against Tesco (Wrats), called it a victory for common sense.
Yesterday’s meeting of Scarborough Borough Council’s planning committee was held at a college to accommodate the crowd.
After much deliberation, councillors backed the planning officers’ recommendations and rejected the plans, by 11 votes to two, sparking jubilant scenes among protestors.
Objectors said the plans would put local shopkeepers out of business and spoil the character of the seaside resort.
The application included plans for 93 affordable homes and a petrol station, at High Stakesby, on the edge of the town.
Mrs Barker said: “We are absolutely ecstatic – the right decision has been made.
“It was a very long meeting – we did not expect it to go on for as long as it did.
“Committee members considered the application very carefully, and came to what, in so many people’s eyes, is the right decision.”
Describing the moment the decision was announced, Mrs Barker added: “Everybody clapped and cheered, we were all just so pleased.
“I am grateful to everyone who has played their part in the long battle.”
Mrs Barker vowed that Wrats members would be ready to resume the campaign should an appeal be lodged.
Planners also considered two other applications from supermarket companies at yesterday’s meeting. A proposal to extend the Co- Operative store was approved.
Plans for a Sainsbury’s store were also approved, subject to 25 conditions, despite being recommended for refusal by planning officers.
There is an equal need for your resume to show case those ?hidden? attributes about yourself which go beyond common benchmark skills, such as how well you team up with co-workers
Your hidden resume is a record of how motivated you are. It speaks to how you maintain a high performance level at work. Your future employer may not care as much if you graduated from Harvard as whether you volunteer for projects at work. Do you have political savvy? Can you maneuver your way through an organization, dealing effectively with the various levels of management?
Your hidden skills need to be highlighted on your resume as much as where you did graduate work or who you worked for when. If you are patient, focus on service and results, are able to work well wherever you?re placed in the organization and align with customer needs, bring these ?hidden talents? to the attention of a current or future employer.

Prime Minister denies attack on city steel boss

Penistone and Stocksbridge Labour MP Angela Smith accused cabinet ministers of making ‘personal, unwarranted attacks’ on Dr Graham Honeyman.
Her broadside, during Prime Minister’s questions, raises the temperature even further on the row which has raged since the coalition axed an A[pounds sterling]80 million package of loans for the steel manufacturing firm.
The support had been agreed by the former Labour Government to help turn Forgemasters into a world leader in the construction of the large scale components needed in the next generation of nuclear reactors.
Deputy Prime Minister and Sheffield Hallam MP Nick Clegg claims the company had only sought the public funding because the lending terms from banks were ‘not good enough and because they did not want to dilute their own shareholdings in the company’.
And Mr Cameron has told MPs there were concerns the company’s set-up meant one man stood to be the main beneficiary – managing director Graham Honeyman.
Ms Smith said: “The chief executive of Sheffield Forgemasters, Dr Graham Honeyman, was last year presented with a lifetime achievement award by the Institute of Directors. And yet various members of the Government front bench have made personal, unwarranted attacks on him in the media.
“Will you apologise now for these unjustified attacks made on a highly regarded businessman?”
Mr Cameron said: “No one has made an attack. This is an excellent company, this is an excellent business

It is a stimulant and it is considered a psychoactive drug. It is the most widely consumed drug in this country. Drugmakers are required by law to list the amount of caffeine in their product, however, food and beverage companies do not have to. The caffeine that is taken out of coffee beans to produce decaffeinated coffee is then sold to drug companies and soft drink manufacturers.
It can be a welcome waker-upper in the morning taken in that morning cup of coffee. It also helps give some a boost to stay awake late in the day. However, the boost isn’t necessarily instant as it takes about an hour for the effects of caffeine to make it’s way through the bloodstream and into the system. It has benefits and it has side effects. It helps keep us alert. It stimulates the central nervous system. Some say it improves physical and mental performance.

WEALTH WARNING – LOAN & CREDIT CARD SCANDAL; Payment Protection Insurance – is this the biggest "Bank Robbery" in history?: ADVERTISEMENT FEATURE
0 Comments | Posted by admin in Uncategorized
Evening Chronicle (Newcastle, England), Oct 5, 2009
Payment Protection Insurance (PPI) policies are designed to cover the cost of loan or credit card repayments in the event that the customer is off sick from work or has become unemployed. However, Renaissance Easy Claim, a leading financial complaints company, is warning that many people were sold policies they didn’t want or need and so could be due compensation.
Andy Humphries, Managing Director of Renaissance explains, “The main problems with PPI are that many people don’t really need the policy they have; the numerous exclusions on the policy mean they may not be able to claim at all; and that the benefit is restricted to a set period of time -usually 12 months. Many customers did not even know they were being sold the policy, or thought they had to have it to get the loan or credit card.
“In 2005 the Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) estimated there were 20 million policies with around 7 million new policies being sold each year. That means, on average, each household in the country has one of these policies.
“In their report, the CAB identified what they said to be widespread mis-selling and consumers paying over the odds for the policies, with only 15% – 20% ever making a claim under the policy. Little wonder they called their report ‘Protection Racket’!
“It’s been estimated that about 60% of PPI policies were related to personal loans and most were sold by the high street banks and building societies. A typical premium, for a 5 year loan of pounds 10,000, was over pounds 2,000. As this was normally charged as a single premium and added to the loan, the banks would charge interest on it as well. That could take the total cost to pounds 2,500 or more. Even if someone was unfortunate enough to need to make a claim because they lost their job, but fortunate enough to escape the exclusions on the policy, then the cover would typically only cover the loan repayments for a year. If they claimed for a full year, the repayments may well have been less than the total cost of the policy. My own view is that if people really had understood the costs relative to the restrictive benefits, very few if any at all, would have taken the PPI.
“With bank staff being set targets for selling PPI alongside loans it is little wonder that many people felt hurried into taking it up under the impression they had to buy the policy, or were left thinking that taking out PPI would improve their chance of getting the loan. If a customer had shopped around for a policy they could usually have found cover at a fraction of the price.
“PPI is also sold alongside credit cards. The policies are designed to cover repayments to the credit card company if the customer is out of work. Again, we find many people don’t know they had it or that they had to have the policy if they wanted the card. Many others don’t appreciate that the policy usually only covers the minimum monthly payment on the card.
“Whether related to a loan or credit card, the policy should have been fully explained before purchase. If it was not then it may have been mis-sold and compensation could be due.
“The Financial Services Authority (FSA) has on several occasions over the last few years expressed concerns over Payment Protection Insurance. In September 2007 it announced the results of its latest mystery shopping exercise. Despite previous warnings, a large number of lenders continued to fail to meet the FSA’s selling standards. At the end of 2008, Alliance & Leicester and Egg became the latest on the list of institutions to be fined

Farmers’ leaders stand their ground over budget cuts
0 Comments | Herald, The; Glasgow (UK), Jul 29, 2010 | by rog wood
THE farming leaders of NFU Scotland and NFU England and Wales met with the UK Government’s Chief Secretary to the Treasury, Danny Alexander, in London yesterday to discuss the central role that rural businesses continue to play in the nation’s economic recovery.
Agriculture is part of the biggest manufacturing sector in the UK – worth pound(s)22 billion a year – and the farming leaders are determined that farming plays its part in the economic recovery.
The meeting was an opportunity to hear first hand about the scale of budgetary cuts – Defra (Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs) is expected to have pound(s)1bn slashed from its budget – and proposals of a trial in rural areas of a reduced rate of fuel duty.
Speaking after the meeting, NFUS president Jim McLaren said: “The agricultural sector is not immune from the impact that the Treasury- led budgetary cuts will have on all industries but this meeting allowed us to investigate if all opportunities to either stimulate farming businesses or strip out unnecessary costs or damaging taxation are being explored.
“For Scotland, a key issue remains the devolution of the animal health and welfare budget and that is something we were keen to raise.
“While animal health and welfare policy is devolved, the budget still remains with Defra at a time when the Treasury is set to reduce its budget by one-third.
“And with the cost and responsibility sharing with regards to animal health on the agenda both north and south of the border, it is essential that the loss of pound(s)1bn from Defra’s coffers will not impact on a fair share of the animal health budget coming to Scotland.”
CRAIG Wilson sold 1216 prime lambs in Newton Stewart yesterday to a top of pound(s)83/head and 195.2p/kg to average pound(s)69.20 and 166p.
A small show of 97 ewes was easily cleared selling to pound(s)84 for Texels, pound(s)70 for Charollais and Crosses and pound(s)57.50 for Blackfaces.
The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers’ Market had 49 prime cattle forward at Dumfries yesterday when trade was sluggish, with heifers selling to 189.5p and averaging 157.1p, while bullocks sold to 190.5p and averaged 160.4p.
Forty-five OTM cattle met an improved trade on the week selling to 124p and averaging 84.3p.
In the sheep ring, 633 prime lambs sold to pound(s)80 and 176p to average 167.6p.
The firm also sold 337 cast ewes and rams that were a better show for quality and dearer on the week. Heavy ewes sold to pound(s)102.50 for Texels and averaged pound(s)66.08, while light ewe sold to pound(s)52 for Blackfaces and averaged pound(s)42.09.

New Law Requiring Opting-in for Overdraft Protection Takes Effect
SPRINGFIELD, Ill., July 16 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — Illinois consumers and merchants need to be aware of a new federal rule that could lead to a significant increase in denied debit card transactions at a point of sale. All financial institutions are required to comply with this new rule.
On July 1, 2010, an amendment to the Federal Reserve Board’s “Regulation E” regarding electronic fund transfers went into effect. It requires consumers to opt-in to their financial institution’s overdraft protection program for ATM and one-time debit card transactions before overdraft fees may be assessed on the account. In the past, many financial institutions automatically enrolled their customers in an overdraft protection program for all types of transactions. Going forward, financial institutions will be forced to stop assuming the risk involved in covering overdrafts involving ATM and one-time debit card transactions, unless consumers choose to opt-in to this service. (These changes do not apply to overdraft programs involving checks and automatic bill payments.)
Failure to opt-in to your financial institution’s overdraft protection program means that an attempt to make a purchase with a debit card may be denied at the point of sale if you have insufficient funds in your account.
Overdraft protection programs offered by financial institutions provide consumers with protection against denied transactions. This service often involves a fee charged to the account holder to cover ATM and debit card transactions when there are inadequate funds in the account. Under the new rule, if an account holder has not opted- in to an overdraft program, and there are not enough funds in the account to cover an ATM or debit transaction, a fee cannot be charged and the transaction may be denied. For new accounts, the opt- in deadline is July 1, while existing account holders have until August 15 to opt-in, after which there can be no automatic overdraft protection offered until an opt-in request is received.
To help Illinois consumers better understand the new regulation and their options, the Illinois Bankers Association offers the following tips and information:
Options for Account Holders
Opt-in: If your bank has a practice of paying overdrafts for ATM and everyday debit card transactions, it will likely offer the option to opt-in to its overdraft protection program. Account holders will receive a notice with directions on how to opt-in. You can also call or visit your bank to help you better understand the process. If you decide to opt-in, you still will have the option to opt-out (cancel) at any time.
If You Don’t Opt-in: If you do not want to opt-in to an overdraft protection program, you do not have to do so. However, if you do not opt-in, your ATM or one-time debit card transactions may be denied if there are inadequate funds in your account. There often are other choices made available by financial institutions to protect against insufficient funds in an account. Many banks provide the option to link a checking account to a savings account or a line of credit
